Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team reached their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the ALCS.

Trailing three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a four games to three victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.

"It's incredible for this squad, our city, our country," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, making him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment besides him with his post-season brilliance," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the sole team never to appear in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of this game," he remarked.

Toronto won the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
