The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics

Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.

At a gathering for a private US Christian college, Farage outlined his viewpoint on British schools, stating that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.

“I expect a walkout by educators very quickly after winning the next general election,” he remarked during a Q&A session.

“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to feel guilt about their nation. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”

Reacting to these assertions, the head of a major education union rejected the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.

“Farage has built his political career on coded rhetoric and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” Kebede stated.

“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”

The party, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.

However, his comments suggested the group would reform the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with schooling – absolutely herculean. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”

Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.

Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, he commented: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in both Britain and America.”

The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.

The politician has charged Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.

Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.

National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for children.

At the US event, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I make that commitment tonight and I’ll do that.”

The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. According to its online description: “A scientific, literary, theological, political, and moral education is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. It offers these beautiful courses for free to all who wish to learn.”
