The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
