The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror with Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl harboring several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct personas, all possessing unique fears and drives. These souls can take over at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, though additional clips depict the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to each person."

The central gameplay loop revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these souls will switch against your will during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their necks are. Flowers are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
