Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, Nigerian authorities announced on Wednesday night. The 36-year-old was part of a serious road collision near Lagos on the 29th of December, a devastating event that took the lives of two of his valued colleagues.
Under Observation for Minor Injuries
The boxer had been under observation while healing from his light wounds, his promoter stated earlier on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement on social media that Joshua was judged healthy enough to “recuperate at home”.
“Anthony and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two deceased friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” Omotosho said.
Remembering the Victims
The two men who died were identified as Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a conditioning specialist. Omotoso added that the champion was filled with sorrow and deeply emotional over the loss of his two trusted companions.”
The news of his discharge arrives after the boxing community offered its support for the champion in the aftermath of the devastating accident.
