Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
Slot highlighted recurring failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results so bad.”
He stated, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
