A Ton of Anime News Landed During the Holidays

The Yuletide season offer a wealth of activities much better than catching up on the updates: discovering surprises, indulging in holiday treats, and using deep breathing to refrain from yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting news items came out during the break, and if you didn't see a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising announcement, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop further production. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the main art for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they could be mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
